How Does Reducing Our Food Waste Protect Our Planet?

Contest Rules

​Create an ad to inform people about how reducing our food waste protects our planet.

  • Important: All images and words must be CLEAR and easy to see from a distance.

  • Include a specific, short message telling people specifically how preventing food waste protects our planet. Ex. Saves natural resources–water, land, energy, reduces methane gas, biodiversity, etc. For ideas, visit Food Matters Action Kit and the WWF Food Waste Warrior Toolkit.

  • Artwork must be submitted online and created in landscape orientation, in color, created by hand, using crayons, pens, markers, paints or other art supplies, with the exception of highlighters.

  • No digital creation is allowed.

  • No cutouts, pasted on, or attached materials of any type may be used.

  • Avoid using any brand names or names of stores in your artwork. Artwork including brand names will be disqualified.

  • Upload artwork via online entry by Saturday, April 22, 2023.

  • Prizes categories:

    • K-5th grade

    • 6th-8th grade

    • 9th-12th grade

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and 1st place teachers.

  • Winners will be announced by May 31st.

  • By entering, participants agree that Food Waste Prevention Week and Sponsors can use their artwork for education and promotion.

Judging Criteria

Clarity of Theme

The work combines technique, expression, and organization through artistic and critical judgement to achieve an effective interpretation of the theme: How reducing food waste can protect our planet.

Creativity and Originality

There is evidence of imagination, creativity, and individuality. The result is distinctive and the concept presented in a unique way that is imaginative and inventive.

Organization & Clarity

The use of elements and the principles of art are used effectively and selectively to enhance the overall appearance of the work. Image and words are clear.

1st place: $500

2nd place: $250

3rd place: $100

Prize Categories: Grades K-5; Grades 6-8; Grades 9-12

 

Teacher/organization - $100 for first place in each category​
